Basic Rules of 7 STUD
In Seven Card Stud you are dealt 7 cards. Two face down four face up and one
face down. With those seven cards you are to make the best 5 card hand out of
the seven you are dealt.
Betting
There are a total of five betting rounds. First round is when you are dealt your
two down cards and first face up card. Generally the person with the lowest card
face up is the person who "brings it in" which is a forced bet. If there is a
tie ie. two people have twos you go by the rank of suites. Spades being best
then Hearts then Diamonds and finaly Clubs. After the first person brings it in
you go clockwise around and each person may call raise or fold. There is a
maximum of 3 raises or a total of 4 bets. This holds true in all betting rounds.
Next each person who called the bet receives one more card up. The person with
the highest hand showing on the board has the opportunity to bet check or fold.
Then you go clockwise with the remaining players and they may call, raise , fold
or if everyone has checked they may check or bet. The stakes generally double
from the third through fifth betting rounds. So if you were at a 3-6 game the
bet would be 3 dollars for the first two rounds and then 6 dollars for the third
through fifth betting rounds.
Variations
Hi-low
Hi-low just like regular seven stud except the pot is split between the person
with the highest five hand and the person with the five card lowest hand. The
way to determine the lowest hand is to start at the highest card and count back.
7-6-5-3-2
would be better than: 7-6-5-4-A
the best low hand is:
5-4-3-2-A
You may be thinking that is a straight. It is, however when figuring a low hand
straights and flushes do not count.
Chicago
Chicago is another split pot game. In this game the highest spade in your down
cards gets 1/2 the pot.
Queens and what follows
Basic seven card stud except Queens are wild and in the up cards the card after
a queen is wild. So if the third player receives a Queen up and the fourth player
gets a seven then Queens and sevens are wild. Now if another queen comes up then
the wild card changes to the card following the queen. If a Queen is the last
(fourth) up card to the last person (dealer) then the Queen is the only wild
card.
Basic Rules of Omaha
In Omaha each player dealt 4 cards face down and then 5 cards across the board.
These are called "community cards". You make the best 5 card hand using only 3
cards off the board "community cards" and 2 cards from your down cards. The
order in which the the 5 community cards come out is:
"The flop" Three cards face up on the board.
"The Turn" or "Fourth Street" One card Face up on the board.
"The River" or "Fifth Street" The final card Face un on the board.
